Green Bean & Barley Drink

Sometime back I remember watching this scene in some Korean drama serials(really can't recall if it was 大长金. I can never remember the shows' titles after watching them!), someone in the show used green bean(aka mung beans) soup to help another person with a wound at anti-inflammatory.

I've also been hearing from some people like my aunts that green beans help to 'cool' the body and eliminate and/or expel phlegm. Honestly, I really don't know if these info have any medical facts. I tried finding more info on it but there isn't much convincing findings.

Well, the thing is Arianne loves this drink and asks for it quite often. I like it myself too, especially when it's very chilled. You can try freezing and making lollies out of this.

Ingredients
100g Green(or Mung) Beans
100g Barley (Use the Pearl ones, not the China ones)
A bunch of Pandan Leaves(aka Screw Pine)
Desired amount of Raw yellow/brown Sugar
2.5L Clean Tap Water

Boil
1. Rinse all the 3 ingredients thoroughly and put everything into a pot with the 2.5L of clean tap water and use hight heat to boil.
2. Once bubbles start, put to low heat and cook for about 40-50minutes or until everything has softened. Serve warm or chilled.

Looks delicious. Thanks for the barley drink recipe. Barley is very healthy. It is rich in nutrients. It helps in various ways like for skin purifier, cures pimples, helps to get taut skin, it act as skin whitener and has many other benefits. It can also be used as body scrub, which can be rubbed on the skin for 15-20 minutes to get optimal exfoliation.

Hi, thanks for sharing this drink! It definitely makes a good beverage for kids in this hot weather.

But can I ask why can't china barley be used for this case?

Thanks and have a nice day :)

Hello Mrs Sze,
Very good question you've asked there!

China Barley is not as yummy to eat after they've been cooked. They get sandy and not tender like the Pearl ones. It's good to use for simply a barley drink but if you intend to eat it, it's better to use Pearl.

So for my this dessert drink, I use the Pearl ones so that Arianne can chew on them. It's especially 'shok' when it's chilled (=
